Advice on how to live by a 90 year old

"To celebrate growing older, I wrote what life’s lessons taught me.
1.Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short - enjoy it.
4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and family will.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Stay true to yourself.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye But don't worry; God never blinks.
16.. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful. Clutter weighs you down in many ways.
18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It's never too late to be happy. But it's all up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, and wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Over prepare, and then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'
27. Always choose life.
28. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
33. Believe in miracles.
34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

I Wish I Could Be A TV - An Essay From A Child
A
teacher from a Primary School asked her students to write an essay about what they
would like God to do for them...At the end of the day while marking the essays,
she read one that made her very emotional.
Her husband, that had just walked in saw her crying and asked her: - What happened?
She answered - Read this. It's one of my students essay.
Oh God, tonight I ask you something very special: Make me into a television. I want to take its place. Live like the TV in my house. Have my own special place, And have my family around ME. To be taken seriously when I talk.... I want to be the center of attention and be heard without interruptions or questions. I want to receive the same special care that the TV receives when it is not working. Have the company of my dad when he arrives home from work, even when he is tired. And I want my mom to want me when she is sad and upset, instead of ignoring me... And... I want my brothers to fight to be with me... I want to feel that family just leaves everything aside, every now and then, just to spend some time with me. And last but not least make it that I can make them all happy and entertain them...
Lord I don't ask you for much... I just want to live like every TV.
At that moment the husband said: - 'My God, poor kid. What horrible parents!

Take
notice of your kids, listen to them. Spend time with them. Don’t wait to realize
that’s it’s too late.
Wait To Worry
Most of us worry a lot. The more we
fret the more proficient we became at it. Anxiety begets anxiety. We even worry
that we worry too much! Ulcers might develop. Health could fail. Finances could
deplete to pay the hospital bills.
A comedian once said,
"I
tried to drown my worries with gin, but my worries are equipped with flotation
devices."
Today, decide that you would wait to
worry!” Decide that you will wait until you actually had a reason to worry —
something that was happening, not just something that might happen before you worry."
"When you are tempted to get alarmed," Tell yourself, you've
got to wait to worry!
Until you know differently, don't
worry.' Waiting to worry helps you develop the habit of not worrying and that
helps you not be tempted to worry."
Ask yourself, what am I worried
about this time last year. Because most people can't remember. Then ask yourself
what is my current worry.
Did you know that the average
worrier is 92% inefficient — only 8% of what we worry about ever comes true?"
Charles Spurgeon said it best.
"Anxiety does not empty
tomorrow of its sorrow, but only empties today of its
strength."

trying so hard not to worry too much.

Living with Enthusiasm
The word “enthusiasm”
comes from the Greek word “entheos.”.
“Theos” is God. When
you’re enthusiastic, it simply means you are full of God.
When
you get up in the morning excited about your future, recognizing that day is a
gift and go out with a spring in your step, pursuing your goals and passionate
about life, then God will breathe in your direction. Studies even tell us that
people who are enthusiastic get better breaks. They’re promoted more often.
That’s not a coincidence. When you’re full of passion, you have the favor of
God.
Remember,
God didn’t breathe His life into us to drag through the day. He didn’t create
us in his image, crown us with his favor, and equip us with his power to just
go through the motions of life. You may have had some setbacks, the wind may
have been taken out of your sail, but this is a new day! God wants to breathe
new life back into you. If you’ll get your fire back, get your passion back,
the wind will start blowing once again.
When
you’re in agreement with God, He can cause the winds of favor to shift in your
direction!
So have faith, because without faith we have nothing!
Stress Is a Choice.
Several years ago
while listening to a priest give a Sunday sermon, he spoke about how life is
made up of a series of choices. It made me realize that my hectic professional
and personal life was of my choosing. Therefore, a life of stress had become my
choice.
Many of us hurry through life going from one place to the next, focused on conquering the next mountain, making the next deal, running the next errand, and believing we will never have enough time to do all the things we need to get done. Yet, there is all the time in the world if we just realize that we are the creators of this life we choose to live. That's right. Life is a series of choices and being free from stress is one of those choices.
Whether your business life is overly complicated or your personal life (or both), you have chosen this current system of chaos. The world is a tantalizing swirl of getting the next "fix," tempting us to fit more and more things, people and processes into our lives, personally and professionally. And because we are so busy being busy, it's easy to be lured into the fray, with our lengthy to-do lists. Yet, the greatest achievements have often come from the simplest of ideas and in the simplest forms.
To experience a simplified life, we first have to learn to slow down long enough to see through all the clutter. We need to realize that we are powerful magnets that attracted this life to ourselves – no matter what – good or bad.
My wish for you is that you commit to simplify your life. Take out a blank sheet of paper and create the life you truly want to live – with less stress and complexity – one that is anchored by a clear sense of your unique and simple purpose.

LIfe's Lessons
Life isn’t meant to be
easy.
I had a habit of
grumbling and complaining about life. If I was having difficulties at work I’d
find myself wishing that things could be easier. I often found myself envying
other people who seemed to have an easier ride than me.
One of the things that
have taught me is that life just isn’t meant to be easy. In fact, the first
thing I learnt is that “life means suffering.” In other words, human nature
isn’t perfect and neither is the world we live in, which means that the very
nature of human existence is painful.
During our lifetime, we
will all go through physical suffering such as pain, sickness, injury and
eventually death; and we will also endure psychological suffering like sadness,
fear and depression. None of us are going to be able to escape that so, rather
than fight it, you might as well accept it. With acceptance and realization, I
find comes a lot of peace.
Do
material things make you happy
OK, this is hardly a
new concept. Many spend a lot of time and money hankering after the latest
gadgets – a top of the range flat screen TV, the latest smartphone, a shiny new
laptop – you name it, many want it. But as soon as they get their newest toy
the novelty would wear off and they would find wanting something else – or
envying other people’s things. They don’t realize they have got themselves into
a cycle of craving that simply wasn’t making them happy.
In fact I felt sorry
for other travelers who seemed obsessed with their phones – spending all their
time texting or tweeting rather than living in the moment.
Nothing
lasts forever
It’s a simple fact –
nothing in this world lasts forever. And although it may not immediately sound
like a positive notion, it actually is. Just like the happy times in life come
to an end, so do the bad times, which is why we need to accept the impermanence
of life.
I find this a
particularly comforting thought when I’m going through a bad patch in life –
just realizing and accepting the impermanence of life reminds me that no matter
how bad things may seem, they won’t last forever. This in turn brings a sense
of positivity.
Rather than fearing it
and avoiding the subject as we tend to do in the West, we must acknowledge and
accept that death is inevitable because of the impermanence of life.
Life is more enjoyable
when you live in the moment
Many rarely live in the
moment. They either are dwelling on past mistakes, feeling wistful for days
gone by or making plans for the future. Their mind was always elsewhere, thinking,
planning etc. Even when they first went traveling they found themselves
thinking ahead to the next country they were going on to, rather than enjoying
the experience they were having at the time.
It’s important to have
mindfulness – existing in the present and being aware of your thoughts and
actions in the present moment without any judgment.
By learning to live in
the present moment we are able to release any longing or wistfulness for the
past, or worry or anticipation about the future.
Life - A Beautiful Story
An elderly man in California calls his son in
New York and says,
"I hate to ruin your day son, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are getting a divorce; 35 years of marriage... and that much misery is enough!"
"Dad, what are you talking about?" the son screams.
"We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," the old man says.
"We're sick of each other, and I ' m sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in London and tell her!"
Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone.
"Like heck they’re getting divorced," she shouts, "I’ will take care of this."
She calls California immediately, and screams at the old man, "You are not getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there. I ' m calling my brother back and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR??" and she hangs up.
The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. "Okay," he says, "It’s all set. They ' are both coming for our anniversary and paying their own air fare."
MORAL OF THIS STORY:
No man / woman is busy in this world all 365 days.
The sky is not going to fall down if you take few days LEAVE and meet your dear ones.
